The Tampa (Fla.) Historical Streetcar group, which is putting in a new electric streetcar system, has refused a $150,000 offer to sponsor a new station. The offer came from Joe Redner, owner of the Mons Venus strip club, who insisted the stop be called the Mons Venus Streetcar Station. “Since the term ‘Mons Venus’ can be construed as the name of a female body part,” wrote THS president Michael English, it “could be construed as derogatory towards women.” Hillsborough Area Regional Transit spokesman Ed Crawford agreed, saying such a name “would be essentially the equivalent of naming one of the stations the ‘Turgid Erect Member Station’.” (St. Petersburg Times) ...Opening soon at 68th and Broadway.
