And the Winner Is
Dorl Gates entered the “World Belly Flop Contest” sponsored by a bar in Beloit, Wisc. Gates, 52, dove off a bridge into the Rock River 20 feet below. The river is known for its cold water and strong undertow. “He came up more than three times,” said witness William Gifford, who was waiting for his turn to jump. Rescue crews searched the rest of the day for Gates’ body; he is presumed drowned. The contest’s top prize: $300. A friend said he didn’t know why Gates decided to enter, considering “he doesn’t know how to swim.” (Beloit Daily News) ...Making it a perfect flop all around.
